The online master’s degree program in special education – which can lead to recommendation for teaching endorsements in learning disabilities or autism spectrum disorders – is designed for K-12 teachers who plan to be involved in the education of students with disabilities. Students will learn research-validated instructional methods and evidence-based practices and will have opportunities to apply those methods in authentic classroom contexts to become highly skilled practitioners.
Learning Disabilities Endorsement
The master’s degree with an endorsement in learning disabilities (LD) or master’s degree only programs will prepare educators to teach individuals with LD in K-12 grade settings. Students will learn research-validated methods and evidence-based practices that they will apply in authentic contexts to foster deeper understanding and critical reflection. Collaboration and consultation skills are the cornerstone of the LD program.
Autism Spectrum Disorder Endorsement
The master’s degree with an endorsement in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or ASD endorsement only programs will prepare educators to teach individuals on the autism spectrum in pre-K through 12th grade settings. Students will be trained to implement educational programming that relies on evidence-based practice for students with ASD. Evidence-based practices are educational practices that have empirical support, are appropriate for a particular student in a particular situation given the professional judgment of the student support team, and have practices or procedures that can be implemented within the educational setting the student resides.
